 Blue Tongue Lizard

This unfortunate lizard was bailed up by the family dog. Thankfully, he was rescued and able to walk away unhurt.

Warning!!!

This lizard gets its name from its blue tongue.  It flicks it in and out to “taste” his surroundings. It is also used as a warning to other animals as “blue” in nature means danger.

Lizard Rescue

Blue tongue Lizards love summer fruit and this one was caught in a net that was covering my raspberries. I was able to gently cut the net and release it unharmed.

Tasmania's Connection to Antarctica

Mawson’s Hut

This picture depicts the replica of Mawson’s Hut in Antarctica.

It is situated on the waterfront in Hobart, Tasmania. Proceeds are used to restore the original hut in the frozen southern continent.

Huskies

Huskies were the only means of transport in Antarctica in the early days of exploration.

All Australian Antarctic expeditions depart from Australia’s southernmost port of Hobart, Tasmania. This includes all supplies, equipment, scientists and other workers for between 6-12 months of the year.

Sailings into this dangerous part of the world is only possible for a few months of the year.
