Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania

Devonport, Tasmania

The Mersey River was very still and the reflections beautiful in Devonport prior to the departure of the Spirit of Tasmania on its daily journey to Melbourne.

Mersey River and the Spirit of Tasmania

The captain of the Spirit of Tasmania certainly had to concentrate on the turn in the river with a very low tide against him. It was a slow turn and it looked as though the ship was too big to make the turn. I was holding my breath as it inched its way around to have the bow heading north to Melbourne.

Sailing at Last

Once completing the tight turn in the Mersey River the Spirit of Tasmania set to sail on its daily trip across Bass Strait.

Visitors to Hobart

A visit to Hobart would not be complete without a visit to the top of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington, especially on a day when the weather is clear.

Unique Wildlife of Tasmania

Kangaroo Mating

Who said Kangaroos can’t climb trees? This big boy has cornered his “girl” in the tree so there was no competition from other “boys”. There was no escape for this “lady”. He definitely kept is eye on the competition.

Cute Echidna

Echidas would have to be the cutest of all the Tasmanian wildlife and one of the most unique. This little guy was checking out the food supply but definitely checking me out too.

Iconic Tasmanian Devil

The endangered Tasmanian Devil would have to have the most fearsome reputation of any of the Australian animals.
Contrary to popular belief, they are actually very timid and shy, and hard to find in the wild.

European Rabbits in Australia

Rabbit Pests

Since the early days of colonisation, Australia and Tasmania have been plagued by the destruction that these pests cause. Originally 13 European rabbits were sent the new colony and they have adapted amazingly well to their adopted habitat.
Follow the link below for more comprehensive information:

Elite Rabbit Burrow

The European rabbit is renown for several things. Breeding, eating crops and digging burrows. This one must be a very “high end” rabbit to have “upstairs” and “downstairs”. It will make a very large hole when the top level collapses. They are not renowned for their engineering skills.

Military Memories in Tasmania

Hobart Cenotaph

This area of remembrance is situated next to the Derwent River just as you enter the city of Hobart.

It is to commemorate fallen military personnel in past wars.

Eternal Flame

The eternal flame memorial is a reflective area in this emotional part of the city of Hobart.

Bridge of Remembrance

The Bridge of Remembrance joins the Cenotaph with Soldiers Avenue. Its architecture is very eye catching as it crosses the Tasman Highway.

Gordon River, Strahan, Tasmania

Leaving Sarah Island

After having a tour on the infamous Sarah Island it was time for a group picture and back to the Harbour Master 2 for a beautiful lunch.

Gordon River Cruise

It is unusual to get such a stunning day on the Gordon River. You could be fooled into thinking it was a cruise in a tropical river.

Reflections on the Gordon River, West Coast, Tasmania

On the right day the Gordon River can turn into a stunning display of reflections for all photographers.

Mt Wellington, Kunanyi, Tasmania.

Hobart is so fortunate to have such a wonderful natural scenery for a capital city. It has the Southern Ocean, sea, bays, the Derwent River...
